Q: I am pregnant, am I able to have a medical facial?
Pregnancy may cause all kinds of problems to the skin because of hormonal changes. Acne, excessive oily or dry skin, as well as dark patchy skin (hyperpigmentation) are just a few of the skin changes that may occur with pregnancy. This is a good time to start and keep up with medical skin care. Lactic acid is very safe and is used to treat the skin of pregnant and nursing women. Many of our products are safe to use as well. Please notify your skin care nurse specialist if you are pregnant or nursing.
Q: I have sensitive skin, can I still have a medical facial?
All skin types will benefit from a chemical treatment. Lactic acid is made for sensitive skin and for patients with Rosacea.
Q: Can I go out into the sun after a treatment?
Outdoor activities and swimming can take place after a chemical treatment. Sunblock must be used and re-applied on a regular basis when out in the direct sunlight.
Q: Can I resume normal activities right away after a treatment?
Normal activities may be resumed following a chemical treatment including exercise.
Q: Will I be red or irritated after a chemical treatment?
There is no down time with the treatments. Immediate results will be seen with the skin looking fresh and less dull.
Q: How frequently should I have a chemical treatment?
A skin cycle is 6 weeks long - from the start of a new skin cell to the death of the cell. It is recommended to have a medical facial or chemical treatment about every 6 weeks.
Q: How much can I expect to spend on a medical skincare regime?
To get started on a solid, medical skin care regime the cost is roughly equivalent to a manicure and pedicure. The products will last about 4-6 months depending on areas other than the face being treated.
Q: What is the difference between Medical Skincare and over-the-counter products I might buy at a department or drug store?
The difference between medical grade skin care products vs. over the counter products is the amount of active ingredients found in the products themselves. Medical skin care products have a much higher percentage level of active ingredients in them, thus causing dramatic changes to the deeper layers of the skin. The result is radiant skin with fewer fine lines and wrinkles. Due to the strength of these products, they must be purchased in a physician’s office.
Q: What is the difference between a ‘medical facial’ (chemical treatment) and a ‘spa facial’?
The medical facial is considered a medical treatment to the lower layers of the skin.Using a variety of different chemicals (alpha and beta hydroxy acids) the skin is exfoliated and stimulated at a deeper level to create more new skin cells. The more skin cells present, the more collagen and elastin are produced slowing down the pre-mature aging process. Spa facials address only the top, dead layer of the skin.
